What I learned in 2010

I was just reading back on what I had to say at this time last year, and wanted to keep the tradition going.

What I learned in 2010:

1.  Follow your truth.  I may have just heard the terminology (care of Jay Z), but I spent most of 2010 doing it without even realizing it.

2.  Stand by those you love. It will sometimes be harder than you ever imagined, but the regret of idle observation only leaves pain in the place of anger.  They may not appreciate it now, but if you are doing it for them and not for you---in the end you have to trust that it will be okay.

3.  Death Sucks.  I lost the first person I really knew this year.  It was more difficult than I had ever anticipated.  It makes you really cherish the time you have with those you love.

4.  Dust yourself off...again and again.  Just when you think you made it...you dust yourself off again.  You can't let it frustrate you or set you back--you just have to take in in stride and keep on moving forward.  Life happens.

5.  You learn more from your mistakes than your successes.  I have several FB postings and a few blog lines that will attest to this.  Failure was once my biggest fear, but now it is not the failure I'm afraid of--it is the lack of trying.

6.  Love is blind, stupid, and irrational.

7.  Faith in others is harder than it looks, but really so worth it!

8.  Trust is even harder, but those that really know you and love you anyway--deserve it.

9.  Sometimes you just have to say no.

10.  There is always tomorrow....and if there isn't, well you have to be okay with today.  Shit or get off the pot as they sometimes say.
