If I could travel to Jan. 1, 2009--this is what I would tell myself...

I love to write. It is my preferred method of communication. I stopped writing a little more than a year ago for various reasons, and I have decided in my infinite New Year's Wisdom, that this year--I am writing again. For if no other reason, than my own selfish need to put my thoughts on paper (in the figurative sense). This is my disclaimer--if you don't like it send all complaints to nobodyslistening@gmail.com. Onward....

First, advice I would give myself on January 1, 2009 if I could *manipulate time and space:

1. New Year's Resolutions are never a good idea

2. Be honest, work hard, stand up for what you believe in--always no matter how hard. Because at the end of the day all you have is you and no amount of money or security is worth a loss of self.

3. Generally speaking, I have found that the people who have no trust in anyone or anything and see only the bad in people and situations--are most likely mirror images of all that they despise and mistrust in others. Golden Rule: Treat others as you want to be treated folks. Be kind, be honest, be sincere, be compassionate, and be responsible for who you are and the choices you make, both good and bad.

4. This is a BIG one----GET EVERYTHING IMPORTANT IN WRITING! There is a time for trust and then there is a time to protect yourself. Never let someone take advantage of your kindness or your passion for something--Get it in Writing! If they are sincere, they will not have any issues in doing so, if they are not willing--it it is a clear indicator that something is amiss and get the hell out of dodge! For all my young FB friends who haven't had to face the "real" world as the old folks will say--learn it. Don't forget it. It will make all the difference in the world!

5. Trust my instincts over everything else.

6. Make mistakes, learn from them, and move on.

7. Be real. Be You. Don't try to do or be anything that you are not.

8. Slow and steady wins the race. It is not enough to want something and be discouraged when it is not there the very moment you want it. We are living in a "get it now" society. Just add water and magically you have a meal, a washcloth, or some sweet lemonade. It is important to set short term obtainable goals that lead to a long term goal. At the end of a week, a month, or a year you will more likely have reached your long term goal in small steps than looking back and wondering where all the time went. Manage your time, pursue life with passion, and remember to be about what you want or you will never see success.

9. Go outside. Experience life. Don't just have something worthy of a FB or Twitter status, but something worth remembering in 30 years!

10. And of course; Live, Laugh, Love. Don't' be so afraid to put yourself out there, meet new people, spread your wings, and be social.

Life is made up of many moments and I do believe that there is a reason for everything. A purpose in all of our actions and reactions. So, for as hard as 2009 was for me personally, particularly in December, I know that the time has come to move on and welcome in 2010.

My roomate asked me, "if you could chose any superhuman power, what would it be"  *Time and Space Manipulation was his---figures.  He is a smart guy.  I chose to read other's thoughts....

Happy New Years!
